George Wright Letter

Titanic Gallery, Maritime Museum of the Atlantic

In early 2023, the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic received a fantastic donation of a priceless letter written by notable Haligonian, George Wright, before the start of the doomed voyage. In contrast to many other artifacts in this gallery, the tone of this case is less somber. Written on White Star stationary, the Letter expresses Wright’s positive impression of his First Class Cabin and excitement about the Titanic’s maiden voyage.

Also displayed is a copy of Wright's World Business Directory. Copyrighted and published by George Wright, this directory of global businesses played an important role in globalization in the late 1800s.

George Wright Letter

The priceless letter is displayed as though the it were nonchalantly placed on a table. The acrylic mount allows it to rest slightly bent along its bifold but elevated in its space.

George Wright Directory

The mount intentionally presents the book angled along two planes for more dynamic viewing as well as reducing its footprint within the acrylic case.

George Wright Letter Exhibit

An alternate view of the George Wright Letter Exhibit, located in the boarding and Titanic section of the gallery. This object is more associated with the excitement of the Titanic at the beginning of her journey as opposed to being grouped with the salvaged artifacts.
